Three of us gringas decided to take a kayaking trip on the river while we were in Valdivia. It was amazing. A couple of times the sun tried to peek out through the fog. It didn't last of course, we were in Valdivia! :)
The river was smooth as glass and everywhere you had to maneuver your kayak around the patches of old trees that used to be above water before the giant earthquake of 1960.
The kayaking trip was incredible. We saw birds and flowering trees that made me feel like I was kayaking right through the canvas of a Bob Ross painting. The enormous yellow flowering trees (I'm sure that's there scientific name :) had a wonderful fragrance.
And by the end of the trip the fog still hadn't lifted, but I had made a new friend who shared my dried figs.
...and met the man of my dreams...he owned a kayaking tour business AND a chocolate/pastry shop...and even looked good in a wet suit! Really, does it get any better than that? ;)
Note: The photos under "three of us" and "patches of old trees" were taken by one of our kayaking guides. All the others are by me.
