Writing on the Wall

In between our hostel and the main part of town was this historical tower. The most intriguing part of the tower was not its true history but what was written on the concrete base.

We arrived in Valdivia Friday afternoon and read this phrase on our way to dinner that evening. Unsure of what "simio" was in Spanish, we pondered it that night in our quarters. The next morning we decided to take a picture of it for posterity.

Sometime on Saturday we decided that is said this...

"It is harder for the monkey to believe that humans are its descendents."

When we walked into town Sunday morning to get some chocolates and other pastry goodies from the kayaking guy, the phrase had been painted over as if it never existed...which added even more mystery and intrigue to the phrase.

It is definitely an interesting thought.
