So this past weekend was a great weekend. And I was in need of some good times…after a couple of weeks of down-in-the-dumps I’m refreshed. Tired, but refreshed.
Friday night I went to dinner with a friend at Jalapeño’s in Lexington. Good Mexican food and margaritas. Yum!
Saturday I drove a horse in the morning and rode a horse in the afternoon. The afternoon was tiring because the horse I was on was about the laziest horse I’ve ever ridden. And I’ve ridden a lot of horses. I worked my butt off getting him to trot and even more to get him to canter…in an open field I might add. We rode to the campground store to get a snack and a drink. My friend and I each got chips and a drink. Our idea of a little “horsey picnic” turned into slimeville. Both of our horses were the biggest mooches and would not stop begging for our chips. It was both annoying and funny. I had never worked so hard to try to eat a bag of chips. By the time I was done, my bag, my shirt, and my arms were completely slimed by my horse.
However, salt & vinegar chips appear to have some sort of energizing property because after the snack my horse was considerably more ambitious. Ok, yes, really it was because we were going back in the direction of the barn, but he really did like the chips. When he started begging I gave him a chip thinking the “pucker” factor of the vinegar would deter his relentless irritation, but it just made him want more.
So after a fun-filled horse-fix day, I went back to the farm, fed the menagerie, and snuggled into bed early.
Sunday morning I went to London, KY and hiked a short section of the Sheltowee Trace with Kodie. It was a bit of a long drive but I enjoyed it. I’d really like to go there for some overnighters. Not too far for that. I didn’t realize it at first but I had actually been on that trail when I went on my first backpack. Go figure!
Well, I’m still farm sitting so I’d better get but thought I’d share my weekend.
