Backpacking at the Red River Gorge

I had a fan-tab-ulous weekend at the Red River Gorge. I went on a KATs backpacking trip. Hiked in to a great campsite near a beautiful overlook. We had a pretty serious marshmellow cooking contest. [Thanks, Jim, for being such a good sport and eating so many marshmellows.] Others my disagree but I'm pretty sure my marshmellows were truly roasted to perfection.

After some sidesplitting fireside laughter we went out to watch the full moon on the overlook. Memorable conversations with really great company flood my memories and I cannot wait to spend more time with my new friends. Two of us ended up sleeping under stars with a full moon blazing down, which was an experience I wouldn't trade for anything in the world.

Considering I had 1 hour of sleep the night before, I had a bit of a rough morning on Swift Camp Creek Trail. I made it through, but the first few miles were a little trying. By the end I was back to my old self enjoying the woods. I opted for the tent on night 2. Again, a super evening with super people.

This morning I had a breakfast of superbly roasted marshmellows then leaned back in a harness for the first time to look over a GIGANTIC cliff. I'm guessing I'll learn to repel soon because I found the whole thing really groovy. But I would like to start out on something a little smaller at first. Sure, call me a weenie...fine by me.

And remember, patience makes the best marshmellow.
