Jinxed into Flipping

After a fun time at the dog park with the girls, I joined some of the KATs crew for an afternoon paddle.

This was a very exciting day for me. I paddled with a skirt for the first time, I learned the basics of hip snaps and practiced a few times, and I went for my very first swim.

The creek was cold and the air was cool and of course I laughed all afternoon. After working on some j rolls (that might not be right, j something-er-others) and learning the startings of hip snaps, I was feeling pretty cocky. I was tooling right along having a blast. I was paddling towards Jim with Chris behind me...feeling sassy and paddling like hell…then I went river right to eddy out and WHOOPSY DAISY…I flipped. I was under the water just briefly and for a split second thought I might be able to roll back up…no such luck, the next thing I knew I was swimming but the first thing I noticed was that I didn’t lose my contacts. I was laughing the whole time. Not that I want to swim...but it was nice to just get it out of the way...now I know I'll probably live...at least in the Elkhorn. ;)

After I (and all my stuff) was collected, Jim said he was really impressed with how I was paddling. Just as he was about to holler that I was a natural I flipped! Ha! Of course, it was not lack of paddling talent on my part…the reason I flipped was because Jim jinxed me! I mean that’s a no brainer! [wink wink]
