I survived a few days on baby duty with my two little Petri dishes…aka, my nephews ages 6 ½ & 1 ½. Children are amazingly germy little creatures. I continually wonder how people live with them all the time without dying of the bubonic plague. Both boys arrived coughing and snotting around…I knew I didn’t have a prayer.
They arrived Thursday evening and left Sunday morning. We had a great few days. We bummed around the apartment and froze our bums off and on Saturday we went to the Bi-Water Farm Autumn Fest, which is our yearly fall adventure.
I have to admit…I love the pumpkin farm. I love being able to turn the boys loose and not have to holler “Don’t touch that” and “Come over here, sit down, and use your inside voice.” That is difficult for me because I don’t have an inside voice. We even turned the little tike loose in the pumpkin patch. He worked and worked and made it clear across the field. He tried to actually walk through the pumpkin vines but he spent more time on his hands and knees than he did on his feet so we talked him into walking around the edge. Granted, the grass was like 8 inches, so he still had quite a challenge. Everyone had a blast.
By Sunday morning, I was exhausted and ready for some peace and quiet in my apartment…and so was poor Katie, hater of all children. I was the first one up so I marched right into bedroom and told them to GET UP, AND GET OUT! I’d had enough with baby duty and needed to spend some time with the dogs and hit the creek.
It was all in good humor and they were ready to hit the highway back to Indiana. I still hadn’t seen the haze of the plague hanging in my apartment.
