After a great weekend of backpacking I settled down for a piping hot plate of Chinese take-out. Holy cow it was delicious. After I finished the meal, I [of course] proceeded to the fortune cookie.
As always, I broke it in half pulled out the little paper fortune, cracked the cookie into fourths and popped one of them in my mouth. As I enjoyed the light taste of the cookie I read my fortune....and very fittingly it read, "Do it because you love it."
That thought was interesting to me because both this past weekend and the one before I walked through the woods and had a realization. You see, I've wanted to backpack for 10 years but never really knew that it was possible for little 'ole me to strap a pack on and head out into the woods.
Well, now I'm doing it [almost every weekend I might add] and I love it. I truly love it and that was what I realized on my last two trips. Have I done a ton of miles yet? No, but I know I love it enough to keep walking.
As hokey as it sounds, I'm going to add this fortune to my list of great life advice. And I'm going to keep doing it because I love it.
