I truly believe the 'ole Forrest Gump line of "stupid is as stupid does."
And stupid did.
After noticing that I have a hole completely through the leather of my hiking boots, I decided I should take better care of them. Afterall it is just a wee little hole, and with some extra time at home with the holiday, I got antsy...and stupid.
I brought out some leather cleaner and proceeded to "clean up my boots." That is in quotes because what I ended up doing was eat away the Gore-tex. Yeah, smart, real stinkin' smart.
Sooo, I went out this past weekend all pleased with my new gaiters so my feet will be dry and my pants will be clean...and my shoelaces stick free. Instead I got white foam across the toe of my boots and soaking wet feet. Both feet, not just the through the boot with the hole.
So you might have guessed it, I'll be buying some new hiking boots this week. And I'm really bummed about that. A couple of weeks ago I was mouthing that I wanted to buy a new pair of boots. Then I decided against it considering I've had my boots for several years and they've never given me a hot spot or a blister and my feet have never gotten wet....UNTIL SATURDAY!!!
Now I'm rather disgusted with myself for my "bright idea" and I think I'll remember the next time to make sure I'm not going to ruin my gear before I decide to "take care of it."
If anybody has any sound advice for purchasing boots, leave it. As for smart comments about my stupidity, leave those after the beep.
