I was just browsing around the internet this morning and found this website. It is the stories of a Peace Corps volunteer's experience in Togo, West Africa. These accounts are close to my heart because one of the reasons I wanted to graduate college was so that I would qualify to join the Peace Corps. I'm not ready to make the 27 month committment but it does still remain in the back of my mind. Maybe one day I'll get the courage. I was really gung-ho for a while and was planning to join right after graduation but through my research I heard several accounts where collecting drinking water entailed using containers to catch it off the roof and then boil it. I asked, "What if it doesn't rain?" The reply..."You hope it does." Whoa. I really like to drink large quantities of water daily and I'm not sure how I would cope with that for 810 days. I'm very thankful we have ample drinking water and hearing real stories such as this makes me appreciate it. But it also holds my committment to the Peace Corps at bay.
Well, here is a link to Aaron's experiences. Check it out. It's well done.
