I attended the National Paddling Film Festival last night for the first time. This festival showcases both amateur and professional films about paddling. It costs $25, which includes food and beer...or in my case diet cola since I don't care for beer.
I also joined American Whitewater for $35, which is an organization dedicated to preserving American whitewater. Oooh, bet you never would have guessed that by the name! Joining also gave me a ticket in the raffle for a new Jackson kayak of the winner's choice. And, because we were there pretty early, we also got a random t-shirt with our membership.
Anyway, I went with my friend Laurie, and although we did enjoy some of the films, it really wasn't super exciting for us. We knew that they would raffle off the kayak after John Grace of, Lunch Video Magazine gave his presentation, so we decided to stay until then.
Just as they were drawing the winning ticket from the pot, Laurie asked me if I was #77 or #79. I was puzzled as I looked at my ticket. Mine said #78. Then she looked puzzled and looked at hers again. Hers said #78 too! Instead of putting one half of the ticket in the pot and giving the other half to Laurie, he gave me half and her half....meaning neither of was were even entered in the damn drawing! I'm not sure I can adequately express our disappointment and despair. After waiting for hours for us to claim "our" boat...we weren't even entered to win!!!!!!
Good heavens. So instead of having a rocking good time and leaving with a new boat, I paid $60 for a t-shirt and a hot dog. Geesh.
Well, the good news is that it is a fundraiser to help save American whitewater. I can live with that...but I sure wish I had at least had a chance at that boat!

Its a shame seinfeld isn't still on the air..that would have made a good seinfeld episode.
Ha! It does sound like a Seinfeld episode! That makes it even funnier.
