Derby at Keeneland

True to my word last year, I went to Keeneland this year for the Kentucky Derby. After last year, spending tons of money for a nap in the infield, and having sober driver issues in Louisville, I vowed to not go to Churchill again unless I have a seat. Although I have had a lot of fun in the infield in years past, I think it is starting to lose it's charm...if it ever had any charm.

So this year I went to Keeneland, spent $3 admission, $2 for a program, and totaled out the day for drinks, bets, and everything else at $50. Compared to $40 admission at Churchill.

There was a very nice crowd at Keeneland. Here's a shot of the paddock crowd. Here's another shot of the paddock crowd...also notice way off in the background how far back they were parking cars. Here's a shot of the group I spent much of the day with from the balcony. Although the weather was little threatening a time or two, it turned out to be a great day to go to the races. I also saw more horse racing in one afternoon of Keeneland on Derby Day than I have in all the times I went to Louisville combined. You simply don't see any racing when you go to Churchill...unless you're in a private box...then you get to see all the horses you want.
So where will I be next year for Derby? Keeneland of course! It's the way to go.
