Advice for Daughters

If you are female and have a mother, then you probably have gotten into an argument at some point in time with her.  A dear woman I work with, let's call her Harriet, has a wonderful philosophy regarding making phone calls to her mother.  Before she dials the phone she asks herself, "Am I emotionally capable of handling whatever my mother may say to me today?"

And I have to admit I love it.

Now, I love my mother very much and she is a big part of my life.  BUT, it is true that some days I need to ask myself whether I am emotionally capable of a conversation with her.

My sister and I talk regularly about this.  One of our favorite quotes happens during a discussion of governmental policy, politics, social philosophy, or a host of other topics that we "might" differ in opinion.  After what we consider a "lecture" takes place, she will say..."Now, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I am just trying to make you understand."

I LOVE IT!  (And all the other quirks that make my mother who she is.)

Disclaimer:  Names have been changed to protect the innocent.  You'll notice I didn't change "Mom." [wink wink]
