Just in case I haven't mentioned it lately, Kodie is a wonderful dog. This does now include being a good guard dog. Tonight was the first time I've had anyone come to the door in the house. A friend came over and then a couple of hours later we had a pizza delivered.
Kodie was alerted to something before the doorbell even rang. She moved to the door and stood at the ready. Once the bell rang she barked her warning. With my reassurance and request she laid a few feet from the door. Good dog.
Later in the evening she became wary of something outside. She stood at the ready in front of the door for a few minutes with her hackles up. Gave a few low growls and then one or two quick barks. After a few minutes she relaxed enough to sit. She faced the dining room and us but routinely checked over her shoulder at the door. Eventually she calmed and went back to her bed.
I never did figure out what had her attention but I was glad that a pre-door bell presence of some kind sparked her interest. It may have been the wind or a raccoon or something minor. But it certainly comforts me to know that she's on the look out.
I love her. She is such a great dog.
And of course, just for good measure, as soon as my friend left I armed the security system. It's been a long, long time since I've lived at ground level. It's amazing how different it seems.
