It's never really been a secret that when I leave Kodie home alone she naps on my bed. No, she doesn't just nap on my bed, she burrows down in to the very fibers of my pillow. Or at least it seems so by the evidence of dog hair that is left behind. I have tried many ways to cover the pillows with blankets and tuck the corners in, etc., but every time I come home the covers are wadded up in a ball in the middle of the bed, the pillows are still warm, and dog hair adds a new dimension to the linens. And I've decided that if that is the worst my dog does when I leave, I think I can live with it.
Well, tonight she forgot I was home. After the initial greeting and outside business she came in and entertained herself. When I walked into the bedroom I found her lounging comfortably, where? On my PILLOWS of course!
Instinctively I mildly growled and said, "What do you think you're doing?" Then she hopped off. As she penetrated me with her loving eyes I began to go soft. Maybe it is that I'm about to turn 31. Maybe it is that it makes the cat mad. Maybe I just like the idea of a mature dog who knows the difference between an invitation and a boundary, BUT I sat down on the bed and invited her back up. She eagerly hopped up and assumed her position in a cozy ball on my pillows. I had to giggle. Then I propped myself up on a vacate pillow and proceeded to perform a ridiculous display of belly rubbing.
So I've decided. There may occasions in the future where Kodie is invited on the bed with me. Not all the time. Maybe when I'm feeling sad. Maybe on cold wintery nights. Maybe just because she's my amazing dog.
