On a Serious Note

I generally try to keep this blog upbeat and fun...but sometimes that just doesn't fit.

This week has been very difficult for my family. Last Thursday my uncle died after many years of multiple health problems. My Uncle Rick, who had just moved back from Thailand, cared for him and helped him with doctor's visits, medication, etc. Then, the day before the funeral, Rick received a call from his niece in Thailand [Rick's wife is Thai and stayed in Thailand] who said Boon was in a coma. Apparently she was struck in the head by flying debris during a windstorm. How bizarre is that?!

After calls to the embassy, Rick decided he would fly over tomorrow morning. Last night he received the call that Boon has passed away.

Although losing my uncle was certainly sad, it wasn't anything like the shock of hearing about Boon...and I was much closer to her and Rick.

I wish Thailand wasn't so far away. Rick will have to travel by himself all that way and then deal with everything alone once he gets there. Boon does have a large family but without her there to help with the language barrier, plus his grief, it is sure to be a difficult trip.

Please think of my family during these times. I'm ready for things to get better and wish I could be of some help to Rick besides writing on my blog.
